What about thermal …
What about thermal imaging, hyperspectral imaging ihope these are going to be considered
if you want to be competitive. What about autonomy are these things your working on
resoloution on the camera need to be better at high altuitudes, vibration on the cam need to be reduced once these issues are tackled i believe you'll be a force to be reckoned with.
what does the …
what does the Helicopters look like with the camera? and is the cmera water resistant?
i would like to …
i would like to make something like this to. would i get into trouble if i flew it around with the FCC??
another thing, the problem i was having with mind is that, when i would hit the fowrard button, it would mess up the carmera and show fuzz, when i wasnt pressing any buttons, it was cool. how can i get it to be as clear as yours?? thanks
Thanks…I hope we …
Thanks…I hope we do eventually move forward on this project. And when we do, we'll do it in the most inexpensive (but effective) way possible. But for now, we're working on other projects. We've had to move on…
No clue. I'm just …
No clue. I'm just the "idea-guy." I'm not even the one that built this thing! We were pushing to go to stage 2 of our project, and the legal folks told us wait until the FAA cleared up the rules for flying over populated areas. It might not apply to hobby-folks. It might not even be the right information. Just what we were told. Sorry I don't know more!
EH wait ?! its …
EH wait ?! its usually just $400 for the kit add the rest for the engine and other parts necessary especially the controller you can get all at a local hobby shop. just make sure you get some lessons
wait your saing …
wait your saing that even hobby r/c pilots cant fly them say in their neighborhoods?
Thank you! We're …
Thank you! We're on hold until the FAA changes some rules about flying these things in populated areas. Then we'll try to move forward…

This helicopter …
This helicopter would have cost us about $1500 to $2000 to keep, but that is due to many donated parts. I guess if you had to pay for everything, it would be about $3000. For a helicopter with some awesome auto-leveling and other advanced features, maybe $10,000.

reallly a great …
reallly a great idea. Although it's not the latest idea, you are providing very much of the possibilities i haven't seen for such a remote camera yet. Keep on the work! Go for chemical comapanies or firebrigade and show your stuff.
Keep on the good work.
how much did it …
how much did it cost to make that rc heli with camera and what is the range of it? Beacouse i wanted to make something like that 9 years ago but never go the chance to
This prototype was …
This prototype was built with borrowed parts which were returned. We asked the department for $2000 to build one that the department would own, but they did not take the leap.
To complicate matters, the FAA put rules in place preventing us from using this helicopter in residential or populated areas, and that was pretty much the ONLY place we were going to use it! I've heard they are working on putting an exception in those rules for Police Departments, but it hasn't happened yet.

Is there another …
Is there another protoype in the works?
Was this one ever used by a department?
I believe it was …
I believe it was Hi8 tape…but that was just because we had a free Hi8 Camcorder available to us. It belonged to Greg Williams' (the guy who put the helicopter together) parents! He was a little worried the whole time that we would wreck it, and break his parents' camera.
A digital camera would go on there just as well. No problems.

This one looks like …
This one looks like VHS. Are you working on a digital?
good thinking work …
good thinking work :O
The reason this was …
The reason this was an attractive option for us, was that if we found a way to fly it at night (obviously it almost impossible to fly if you can't see it, so we would have needed to improve this helicopter to fly at night), the camcorder could be set on NightShot mode, and would give us IR images.

Careful. We're …
Careful. We're watching you.
Actually, the FCC banned our use of the helicopter in residential areas, effectively killing our project. Efforts are underway to lift the ban. But, basically Big Brother killed the project!

I believe it was a …
I believe it was a Sony or JVC camcorder. Hi8. Like the kind you would use to record your family Xmas or something. We rigged a wire to a small hole we drilled in the zoom button, that allowed us to zoom remotely.
