Statement/Current:
Alright, I have found a radio controlled transmitter on eBay (The ones used for RC cars, RC airplanes, RC helicopters, Etc.) I am currently in the process of build a Surface robot, its not a kit so I get no instructions (I don't need them).

Problem 1:
What I am struggling with getting through my head is whether or not you can buy ANY radio controlled transmitter (Whether its for surface, air, water, or all) and just change the frequency crystal on the Radio Controlled Transmitter and the Receiver to say anywhere in the MHz that falls in the Radio Controlled Transmitter's Channel(s).

Problem 2:
If "Problem 1" is possible, then I have another problem. There is a receiver that is included with the Radio Controlled Transmitter. The problem is that the Radio Controlled Transmitter is 6 channels
(0 - 6) but the receiver is 7 channels. I'm not sure whether or not this is just an extra or does the Radio Controlled Transmitter has to be 7 channels?

Problem 3:
This problem is not based on "Problem 2". Micro-controller, is it really needed? All I want to do Is mount a wireless camera to the robot, and be able to control the direction it moves via Radio Controlled Transmitter. I don't want the robot to act on its own (Not at that point just yet, as this is my first robot), so I honestly don't think ill need one, I plan to hook up the Receiver channels to the servos on which it will handle the rest based on the Radio Controlled Transmitter.

And Lastly:
I'm new at robot building, so please no harsh comments about me not knowing how to do this, I have a good answer to these problems I just simply want to "double check" my answers. You guys don't need to worry about the camera or the servos, etc.

Thanks For Reading!
Thanks "Connor Man" for answering "Problem 2" for me, but I am not understanding what you said about "Problem 1". My robot will be surface and I do not want a GHz, or any of those newer frequency Radio Controlled Transmitters, I want to stick to the old school MHz Frequencies. I'm asking if you could take the slandered futaba Radio Controlled Transmitter (for example, its for RC airplanes, helicopters, etc.) and change the crystal (since the crystal for an air only is 72 MHz) to the surface frequency at 75MHz.
I have a battery holder (holding 4 AA at a total 4.8V) which has an on and off switch, will that work? As for the robot going out-of-range, I will just go locate it within my house and flip the battery pack switch.

For question #1:
Yep, 4 aa's will make that robot work and you can change the frequency. Just make sure the radio is on the same frequency.
Anyway, onto question 2:
A 5-channel radio can work with a 6-channel reciever. The 6th channel might be used to operate the shut-down function (from the robot's battery) when out-of-range but not from the radio (remember, this just an example). Then again, a seven channel radio will be able to operate all the channels on a six-channel reciever but it will have an open channel within the radio.
Hopefully I answered your question and good luck to you. If you need more help, feel free to message me or visit a local hobby shop near you.

Plus, I am able to answer question 3:
A Micro-Controller (ESC (electric speed controller) aka MCU (micro controller unit) are almost the same thing). In fact, without the MCU, your robot might be unable to process long-battery application functions such as shut-downing when it's out of range/etc. It's like the heart my man. (that was according to wikipedia and I put the source below so you can read more into them) Maybe you won't need it… who knows except you.

I am a beginner and want to find a good remote control helicopter.

1. I want it to be able to get of the ground,
2. have a reasonable flight time in between charges
3. be reasonably easy to learn how to fly it doesn't have to be too simple I have a brain
4. flies straight when you want it too and not just in circles
5. This is not as important but it would be really nice if it had full range of motion (forward, back, right, left, up, down and possibly hover)
6. If it does crash preferably it won't shatter into a jazillion pieces maybe a gyro would keep it from crashing I don't know enough about them to know

I don't want one too big. Indoor is preferred to outdoor, but if it does both that's obviously fine too :). I've read that a "hobby" standard coaxial mini helicopters are better than "toy" helicopters because if something does break you can replace parts. On the other hand I'm NOT made of money so a $80 helicopter for fun is far out of my budget.

If nothing like this exists sorry to waste your time, but I'm hoping some rc helicopter junkie can read this and have a solution. I tried googling it, but I don't know enough of the terminology to find what I want. I found something called a "E-flite Blade mCX" off of a blog and it sounds awesome but the cheapest I can find it is $60 which is still far out of my budget :\. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your in luck, there is a mini RC helicopter does fit your criteria pretty well.

Its the Syma S107 mini electric RC helicopter.

I've had mine for some time and I love it, its great fun and easy to fly. Its a good beginners helicopter.
If it does crash its got a metal frame and is pretty durable. Mine hit the ceiling, the desk, and the dog, and it just keeps right on going.

If you get it online you should be able to grab one for around $30 bucks. Thats it.

You can read a full review and see a video of it flying right here:

http://electricrchelicopterreviews.com/

I hope you try the s107 you wont regret it!

Happy Holidays–

Cheers

Hi, myself and my Dad got an RC helicopter each (same model) -
http://www.trademe.co.nz/toys-models/radio-control/helicopters/auction-424744533.htm
Anyway, my mum asked the shop keeper for a helicopter model that if we bought two of we could change the channels so we wouldnt have the issue of interfering with each others frequency and flying one-anothers' helicopter.
There's no buttons or switches on the controller, nor the helicopter, that I can see.
Was the shop keeper incorrect when informing us we could use them near each other without picking up each other's frequency?
Thank you

Sadly, Real full 3D control!,Infrared Control , Is basically a system that is extremely susceptible to interference! specially if you have to of them on the air at the same time! the only good news that I can give you is that for as long you have enough distance from one an other! I will say about 15 feet and you don't point your remote to the other aircraft you will be in the safe side. Understanding that You don't have in any way shape or form a physical way to modify the Transmitter or Receiver, that is your only option! You very much get exactly what you pay for! Never the less get out there and Have fun!
