How To FLY RC HELICOPTERS.

By Request, I show how to use the control sticks to fly a helicopter on Aerofly pro deluxe from ( http://www.hobby-lobby.com )

You would never jump in a real heli, and say, "Hey, I'll just figure it out!"

Flying an RC model HELI is about the same as trying to balance a BALL BEARING in SPACE!

You move it slightly, and you have to do EVERYTHING YOU CAN (moving all 7 CONTROLS AT ONCE) just to get it stopped, let alone trying to GET IT BACK to you!

Then, if the nose is pointing at you, 4 of those controls are REVERSED!

This is all hard learned with RC HELI Pilots and why there are so few of us around.

Its NERVE-WRACKING for most and why only 4% of the people, actually advance to simply HOVER, let alone move on to 3D (stunts).

CRASHING has to also be accepted as a very important part of the learning curve.

So learn on a VW, and if you never crash it, then get the Porsche!

Good luck,
Dave

hi dave, a lot of …
hi dave, a lot of different people that i talk to have different things to say about holding the transmitter, is it easiest tp hold you humb and pointy finger on both your just on the throttle as you show?

pa6xylly @ 3:09 pm

quite thorough. …
quite thorough. thanks for posting this.

and i love all the colloquialisms,
"no chop stick, no bang boom"

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

Nothing good enough …
Nothing good enough. Just buy a cheap windows machine and use it just for the Aerofy simulator, voted best world wide.

kenw1949 @ 3:09 pm

Dave, do they make …
Dave, do they make an RC Fight simulator for a MAC?

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

My laptop doenst …
My laptop doenst have a SUPER GRAPHICS card, so the square shadow is a result. My blade lifts off at only 1/2 degree of positive pitch when it is spinning full speed in the 3d mode. It is so close to center stick on the left stick, that it is hard for a beginner to distinguish. I know the theory and also know how to fly inverted, using this method that is known as the MAS technique, from Mike MAS who did the first inverted landings, the first loops, and the first tail stand with a heli.

gadget01 @ 3:09 pm

What's with the …
What's with the square shadow under the model? Dave, you said early in the video that the model hovers with 0 degrees pitch. This is not the case with a model capable of inverted flight and symmetrical blades- you need a few degrees of positive pitch to hover upright and a few degrees of negative pitch to hover inverted.

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

Thank you much.
Thank you much.

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

LOL. Thanks kindly.
LOL. Thanks kindly.

gentarion @ 3:09 pm

thats because hes …
thats because hes one of the first in the us to start flying rc helis and he invented the ETRM heli for kyosho!

puttdar @ 3:09 pm

This guy is a good …
This guy is a good teacher!

airlinerdude12 @ 3:09 pm

you've done it …
you've done it again dave!!

NICE VIDEO. I LIKED IT WHEN YOU SAID " DONT WATCH THAT TAIL" and you sounded like my father!.

LOL

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

I agree. Thanks.
I agree. Thanks.

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

Thanks very much. …
Thanks very much. It takes some practice, but best to not over control and you will be fine.
Try not to be afraid of the heli. You have to be in charge of it and make it do what YOU want, not what it wants. Good luck.

gtokarsk @ 3:09 pm

I think in general …
I think in general no flight sim is as good as "real" but.. what it will do it will teach you to just control the heli/plain automatically, rather than thinking about it, and I think that's a big thing. If you have to think about what to do, u probably not gonna do it right.. if you brain just takes over and "does it" you are better - and that you can only get through experience, which comes way cheaper if you use a sim.. crashes cost nothing! :)
I hope the expert (AKA NightFlyyer) agrees ;)

gtokarsk @ 3:09 pm

Hey man! Thx! That …
Hey man! Thx! That is exactly what I was after.. it's very different to just hear the suggestions or a see a heli attached to something, vs seing it actually fly. I see you do way more pulsing, while I do tend to hold the controls steady way more, so let's hope I can retrain myself ;)
Thx :)

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

Thanks kindly. I …
Thanks kindly. I appreciate that. Good luck with the MCX.

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

No. It only …
No. It only teaches basic controls and orientation, but not realistic enough. Still a tool to start with cheap.

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

THANKS. Well I am …
THANKS. Well I am just trying to show them graphically to recenter the sticks after making a maneuver.
I have taught hundreds of folks to fly in it works for them and me.

NightFlyyer @ 3:09 pm

8. Nothing is …
8. Nothing is perfect and people take more chances with the sim. AEROFLY will have your palms sweating, however with a good plane or heli and the wind turned on like real life. No matter what, they all teach you how the controls work. Most people forget when they get out on the field though.

Gamah1991 @ 3:09 pm

It would give you a …
It would give you a start on learning the controls and basic flight.

alex681219 @ 3:09 pm

1 to 10 how do you …
1 to 10 how do you feel the sym vs the real world (about control)

ParkFlyer98 @ 3:09 pm

Do you think that …
Do you think that the FMS simulator is any good for learnining how to fly a 3d helicopter?

Skydive4ever @ 3:09 pm

Nice Job Dave, I …
Nice Job Dave, I haven't gotten my blade b'n'f mcx yet, it's still on back order with my LHS, i also ordered a flight sim to help me out with heli flying and 3d/aerobatics for my planes. Keep up the good work. it's great that you got some sponsors, i'll check them out.

aaronredbaron @ 3:09 pm

great vid… But, I …
great vid… But, I would not show beginners to flick the stick like you do in the beginning. I think it is important to always keep your fingers on the stick and guide the inputs. Just my 2 cents worth… still a good tutorial though :)

ssrc30 @ 3:09 pm

Ya, he has done …
Ya, he has done really well with the basics but it's the more advanced stuff he is trying to get into, waterfalls, tornado's, hovering etc……..
